Good Evening Band Families
We are in the home stretch of the 2018-2019 school year. We wanted to share some exciting things happening this week, give you some reminders and tips on preparing for Summer Camp, and provide some messages for you from your Booster Team.
Our new uniforms have arrived! Thank you to our Uniform Manager, Kim Coleman, for taking on the task of organizing and prepping them.
Don’t forget to pay the Save your Spot fee, it is past due. Our payment schedule is on the website along with our Scholarship Requests for any of you that feel you need assistance this year. Neasebands.org
Please make sure to read and understand the recent letter from Mr. Cananzi concerning Vaping and making the correct decisions as a student in order to maintain the privilege of participating in our Band Program. Mr. Cananzis Letter is also at the bottom of this Band Blast.
We have a new Band App! You should have all received an Invitation to join. If you haven’t seen it, please contact Neasebandcommunications@gmail.com and let us know. We will send you the link.
We are starting a Mentor Program for our new students. If you are interested in BECOMING a Mentor or HAVING a mentor, please contact email@example.com and we will make sure you are paired with a seasoned or new parent to help you through this new year. We are also still compiling a list of volunteers for our 2019-20 season. We need help for football games, events like FCMI, assisting with moving props or instruments, loading and unloading vehicles, concessions, and donations. Whether you can do an hour, or be part of a team all season long, or you want to supply Gatorade or snacks, your support is what keeps our program moving forward and staying successful. Please contact anyone on the Booster Board or Mr. C if you are interested in Volunteering.
SUMMER CAMP: Here are some tips and suggestions from your team leaders and Directors to help you to be prepared for Band Camp in July.
HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE Drink water every day. Your body uses water for everything from maintaining its temperature, to keeping joints and cells healthy. Get your body ready for the stress and strain of daily workouts in the sun.
PRACTICE Practice your instrument. You will be playing for several hours every day for 2 weeks, and then moving right into school, Marching Season, and performances. You want to maintain and even improve your skill level. Keep your instruments CLEAN and get them TUNED UP. They will need to be in good working condition. Practice your Movement. Your leadership has uploaded videos onto FB. They took the time to record them so you can train your body for the marching, training, and repetition of Camp. COLORGUARD Andy and Kelly will be uploading detailed video assignments each week for you to work on in order to be prepared.
TRAINING Train your body for Season. Get out there and walk, jog, run, weight train, and get used to that heat out there. Your body needs to withstand marching and playing in the heat of a Florida summer, and it needs to be ready for the physical rigors of Camp and Rehearsals.
Conduct We have a code of conduct that we must follow in order to participate in Band. All students must sign the Code of Contact for St Johns County. Please make sure you have read the following Letter sent out to all parents and students from Mr. Cananzi concerning this subject.
Keep in touch with your leadership team and your friends. There will be rehearsals for percussion and meetings with some of your sectionals before camp begins.
With training, hydration, practice and communication we will all be ready to have an awesome and successful Band Season! Go Nease!
Greetings Nease Band Family,
As the semester comes to a close, I once again want to thank you all for continuing to support our wonderful students and for having a helping hand in making this year amazing. Even though the semester is ending, many moving parts in the Nease Band Program are constantly in motion. Our new uniforms are due to arrive this coming Monday! Information will be posted about care and handling of the new uniforms. Please keep up to date with the summer schedule. Color guard and Percussion rehearsals have been announced, and it is very important to make every attempt to be at all rehearsals.
This past week, I held a leadership meeting where we discussed the importance of being safe and understanding the hazards of using vapor pens. Vaping has quickly become a national epidemic, and some recent discoveries within the program encouraged me to speak to our leadership team about the harmful risks of vaping and the subsequent consequences if caught. I reminded them that it is illegal, and if caught with any illegal substance they will be removed from the program and protocol regarding administrative referral will be followed. Students on campus are searching for secluded locations in restrooms, closets, and unsupervised areas to vape. Parents, please be reminded that these substances are small, relatively odorless, and can be easily hidden. Hiding substances in a student’s sock, shoe, pocket, or book bag have become commonplace. I encourage all parents to have discussions with your student about the legal and health consequences that vaping causes. It will not be tolerated within the Nease Band Program.
With that said, I hope all of you have a restful and pleasant summer break! Please take time to spend quality time with friends and family. I am extremely excited for the 2019 – 2020 edition of the Nease Band Program!
Thank you all for your continued support,
